چکیده
We report on an XMM-Newton observation of RX J1347.5−1145 (z=0.451), the most luminous X-ray cluster of galaxies currently known, with a luminosity LX = 6.0 ± 0.1 × 10 erg/s in the [2-10] keV energy band. We present the first temperature map of this cluster, which shows a complex structure. It identifies the cool core and a hot region at radii 50-200 kpc to south-east of the main X-ray peak, at a position consistent with the subclump seen in the X-ray image. This structure is probably an indication of a submerger event. Excluding the data of the south-east quadrant, the cluster appears relatively relaxed and we estimate a total mass within 1.7 Mpc of 2.0±0.4 × 1015 M⊙. We find that the overall temperature of the cluster is kT = 10.0 ± 0.3 keV. The temperature profile shows a decline in the outer regions and a drop in the centre, indicating the presence of a cooling core which can be modelled by a cooling flow model with a minimum temperature ∼2 keV and a very high mass accretion rate, Ṁ ∼ 1900 M⊙/yr. We compare our results with previous observations from ROSAT, ASCA and Chandra.

We present the first results from an XMM-Newton observation of RX J1347.5−1145 (z=0.451), the most luminous X-ray cluster of galaxies currently known, with a luminosity LX = 6.0±0.1×10 45 erg s in the [2-10] keV energy band. متن کاملLosing Weight : A KECK Spectroscopic Survey of the Massive Cluster of Galaxies RX J 1347 − 1145 1 Judith
We present a sample of 47 spectroscopically confirmed members of RX J1347−1145, the most luminous X-ray cluster of galaxies discovered to date. With two exceptions, all the galaxies in this sample have red B−R colors and red spectral indices, with spectra similar to old local ellipticals. Using all 47 cluster members, we derive a mean redshift of z̄ = 0.4509± 0.003, and a velocity dispersion of ...

We have shown that the cluster-mass reconstruction method which combines strong and weak gravitational lensing data, developed in the first paper in the series, successfully reconstruct the cluster mass distribution. In this paper we apply the method to the ground-based high-quality multi-colour data of RX J1347.5−1145, the most X-ray luminous cluster to date. The very deep multi-colour data an...
متن کاملPlanck early results. XXVI. Detection with Planck and confirmation by XMM-Newton of PLCK G266.6–27.3, an exceptionally X-ray luminous and massive galaxy cluster at z ~ 1⋆
We present first results on PLCK G266.6−27.3, a galaxy cluster candidate detected at a signal-to-noise ratio of 5 in the Planck All Sky survey. An XMM-Newton validation observation has allowed us to confirm that the candidate is a bona fide galaxy cluster. With these X-ray data we measure an accurate redshift, z = 0.94 ± 0.02, and estimate the cluster mass to be M500 = (7.8 ± 0.8) × 1014 M . PL...
متن کاملSuzaku broad - band spectroscopy of RX J 1347 . 5 – 1145 : constraints on the extremely hot gas and non - thermal emission
Context. We present the results from the analysis of long Suzaku observations (149 ks and 122 ks for XIS and HXD, respectively) of the most X-ray luminous galaxy cluster, RX J1347.5–1145, at z = 0.451. Aims. In order to understand the gas physics of a violent cluster merger, we study physical properties of the hot (∼ 20 keV) gas clump in the southeast (SE) region discovered previously by the Su...
